Served during the lively night were fancy hors d’ouvres, including tuna tartar, thai beef spring rolls and chicken satay, washed down by enticing cocktails provided by Asian-inspired TyKu liquor. The overall feeling was more like a club than a benefit.

The red carpet was packed with celebs, including Adrienne Bailon, Tiki Barber, Marc Bouwer, Vivica A Fox, Lydia Hearst, Damaris Lewis, Angie Martinex, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Jessica White. Guests entered to tunes provided by DJ Miss Saigon.

Following a video presentation describing The Compound Foundation’s mission, awards were given to a number of honorees for their contribution.

When Darryl “DMC McDaniels took to the stage, he addressed the crowd with the attitude and energy of a seasoned performer. By the end, people were cheering for the cause and charged for Ne-Yo’s performance.

Ne-Yo is a true performer in the tradition of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Usher. The energy buzzing in the room was so intense and raw, he ended up performing longer than planned. Rather than the 3 songs he was scheduled for, guests were treated to 6 numbers, including a medley of Rihanna and Beyonce tunes.

The Compound Foundation was founded in 2007 to support children in the welfare system. Their mission is to increase awareness about children in the welfare system and support residential care facilities. They focus on teaching children entrepreneurship and life skills to better their futures.
