Dark Night of the Soul debuted last night at the Morrison Hotel, finally bringing to the public eyes and ears, the highly anticipated collaboration that has been both a legal and emotional struggle. Led by Danger mouse, David Lynch and Mark Linkouse, the collaboration also features Julian Casablancas, Iggy Pop, Frank black and is a soft balance between visual and audio art, with Lynch's photography hanging throughout the gallery as the record plays in the background.
Samantha Rex, Jan Christiansen, Pete Hur, The Attic Ends The project was initially set to release over a year ago, but it was tied up due to legal disputes between Danger Mouse and the record label EMI. That was the legal setback. Since the time of it's actual completion, co-creator Mike Linkous shot himself in the heart and guest-vocalist Vic Chestnutt overdosed on muscle relaxers. The music, photography and everything else surrounding the work is consistent in tone and history with the music mostly"hushed and somber," throughout the album.
