Figure Skaters

Spring weather was in total harmony on Monday evening, April the 4th, for Figure Skating in Harlem's 2011 Skating with the Stars. The popular Central Park Annual was held at Trump Wollman Skating Rink and welcomed an array of attendees for family fun. This year's event raised more than half a million dollars, as announced by Sharon Cohen, Founder and Executive Director of Figure Skating in Harlem.

The gala affair began with a regal red carpet graced by today's most prominent professional figure skaters. as well as Figure Skating in Harlem students. Just beyond the carpet, a wondrous evening awaited, that included ice time with celebs and pros, a VIP dining experience, awards ceremony, silent auction and a performance.

Olympic Gold Medalist Sarah Hughes, along with Macy's Chairman and CEO Terry Lundgren, his wife, author and world figure skating judge Tina Lundgren and Lola C. West of Genesis Asset Management were the gala's honorees. Melania and Donald Trump and Tamara Tunie of "Law & Order Special Victims Unit", served as this year's Honorary Chairs.

Seeing Actress Tamara Tunie, one of the evening's hosts, early on was particularly exciting. Tunie who is involved with the event each year shared "I've been with this organization since the beginning... you know 14 years. It's just an extraordinary and exceptional organization for young girls that is an artistic and educational powerhouse."

Soon after Melania and Donald Trump's arrival, which included photos with several FSH students and even a few autographed program books on the part of Mr. Trump, it was off to the ice for the awards ceremony. Everyone ranging from New York businessmen to fashion icons to pro skaters took part including Vera Wang, Kenneth Cole and Reginald Van Lee.

Skating pros in attendance for the evening included board member Evan Lysacek, Jeremy Abbott, Tanith Belbin, Ben Agosto, Sarah Hughes, Johnny Weir, Sasha Cohen, Todd Eldredge, Timothy Goebel, Emily Hughes, Adam Rippon, Joannie Rochette, Lucinda Ruh and Fumie Suguri, all Olympic and World Medalists.

A silent auction, offering an array of items ranging from a trip to Shanghai, China to attend Artistry on Ice 2011, with a 5-night stay at the Portman Ritz-Carlton, to floor seats to a Keith Urban concert in Dallas assisted in raising critically needed funds to expand Figure Skating in Harlem's innovative and empowering youth development program. The gala's fundraising auction continues online via Charity Buzz.com through April 20th.
