Celia Babini and Gigi Ashkenazy

The 2nd Annual Solving Kids Cancer, an organization established to find, fund, and mange solutions to improve survivorship, took place this year at 583 Park Avenue. The annual spring celebration event successfully raised a total of $400,000.

Solving Kids’ Cancer founders John London & Scott Kennedy, along with Donna Karan, hosted the May 12th benefit. Co-hosts Debra Ashkenazy, Gabby Karan De Felice, Lyss Stern, Yvonne Force Villareal and Bonnie Young, along with committee members Alina Cho, Carolina Herrera, Nanette Lepore, Alexandra Lind Rose and Amy Sacco, were joined by guests Chelsea Clinton, Donna D’Cruz, John Demsey, Veronique Gabai-Pinsky and Tom Silverman.

John London and Scott Kennedy

Each year's event is special due to the sincere words of founders John London and Scott Kennedy. This year, John London's spouse, Catherine London, took to the podium and spoke in loving memory of their daughter Penelope, whose life was taken by cancer.

Over a seated dinner, the evening’s honoraries, Big Apple Circus Founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen spoke before the crowd, informing them of the good works done through the years by The Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit, formed in 1986. Immediately following, a brief video, "Laughter is the Best Medicine", narrated by NBC Today Show's Meredith Viera, was shown. The piece showcased the benefit of clown care to ailing children.

This segment ended with the award winning Young People’s Chorus of New York City, comprised of children ages 7-14, singing "Seasons of Love" and "Whatever."

Donna Karan

Donna Karan introduced actor, author and women's health advocate Karen Duffy, philanthropist and nightclub impresario Amy Sacco and comedian/actor Seth Herzog ("Late Night with Jimmy Fallon"), who served as co-auctioneers for the live auction which featured the opportunity to sponsor a clinical trial. The SKC board promising to match the money raised dollar-for-dollar in order to launch the trial. The trio rallied guests. The highly spirited live auction provided each bidder with a butterfly, as opposed to the traditional bidding paddle.

The event's silent auction included a day at the circus and post show tour from Big Apple Circus, the chance to have your child star in Bonnie Young’s Spring 2012 photo shoot, as well as a Superbowl Football signed by Emmitt Smith.
