Condé Nast Traveler's celebration of Pilar Guzman - Saturday, 2/8/2014 3:07 PM

Neighboring the soon-to-be new Condé Nast headquarters, international impresarios of fashion and culture joined the kings and queens of Condé for Anna Wintour and Christy Turlington Burns’ hosting of an evening of cocktails celebrating the new Condé Nast Traveler and Editor-in-Chief, Pilar Guzman. From the Publishers, editors and models all the way down to the friends and well-wishers, not a single hair was out of place or color mismatched as everyone in attendance dined on delicates, conversation and cocktails in the sharply modern space overlooking the future World Trade Center site in World Trade Center 7.

Donned with the woman of the evening, Pilar Guzman, Condé’s Queen Bee herself, Anna Wintour, arrived early bumping into our own Patrick McMullan in the lobby. Patrick graciously – and wisely – allowed the pair the first elevator up, intentionally avoiding any awkward elevator talk with one Mrs. Wintour, “With [Mrs. Wintour] it’s best saying little because then you never say wrong,” – which I certainly took to consideration upon our introduction, our mutual polite nod saying everything necessary.

Once up, the two powerhouses warmly greeted everyone at the door while awaiting the arrival of consummate role/supermodel – and current Condé Nast Traveler cover model – Christy Turlington Burns, whom, immediately upon entering, lit up the room with her legendary smile and charisma. Together, the three idols left no one in the room feeling out of place or unwelcomed. Among the A-List only invitees were S.I. Newhouse, Chuck Townsend, Mario Testino, Karolina Kurkova, Inez & Vinoodh, Phillip Lim, George Kolasa, Livia Marotta, Misha Nonoo, Hamish Bowles, David Rockwell, Jordan Roth, Jeff Klein and Sean MacPherson.

Cocktails and camaraderie were broken up halfway through as Anna Wintour stood to speak a few words, commending first Mrs. Turlington Burns, whom she views as, “the model that we measure against all others,” before delightedly introducing Mrs. Guzman to the stage and, “back where she belongs at Condé Nast.”

The Condé Nast Traveler Editor-in-Chief spoke with sincerity and humility, beginning by saying this appointment is a dream come true for her. She continued towards her renewed mission, declaring, “we are returning to this magazine’s roots – providing fresh focus to a category that has become, perhaps, a bit predictable… it is crucial to find the muses and storytellers whose taste and intelligence we trust to help us filter through the noise… [which is why] Christy is our ultimate travel muse – a person who travels the world with curiosity, intelligence, taste, fearlessness, and compassion.”

Condé Nast Traveler’s muse, Mrs. Turlington Burns, undeniably defines her title. Having traveled the world through the course of her prolific career, she still has that zeal to learn and discover, “I love to sit down and eat with the local people. I find food is the best way to learn about their culture.”

The mood then picked back up where it had left and continued well past the last drink being served with everyone seeding and solidifying relationships to sprightly music spun by doppelganger DJ duo, AndrewAndrew. Even as the evening came to a close, fun was still being had as the renowned beauty, Karolina Kurkova, found inspiration in the space and brought upon something of an impromptu photoshoot, playfully modeling for her own Instagram and leaving everyone spirited for what’s sure to be another memorable fashion week.
