Blonds After Party - Friday, 2/14/2014 8:33 PM

The room was palpably writhing with New York’s sexiest club-goers, fashionistas and club cult stars as a plumply pregnant Lil Kim announced her comeback, performing her classics for MAC Invites You To The Blonds AW 14 Fashion Week After Party at Meatpacking’s exclusive new Gilded Lily nightclub.

It was difficult to find an inch of space, let alone entry for the many outside, in what felt like a basement speakeasy where the only entry is its inconspicuous street level elevator; but once descended and the doors open, we found ourselves in an anything-goes glamour grunge atmosphere of pure midnight reverie. In the keyhole shaped space, complete with a sunken dance floor left over from its former days as the 1970s Crisco Disco, all the familiar faces of Manhattan’s club cult coterie were peppered about: Phillipe Blond in a definably characteristic gem-encrusted gold body suit complete with his trademark 1950 Hollywood Starlet blonde hair and partner David Blond, Amanda Lepore, Susanne Bartsch, Carmen Carrera, Laverne Cox, Veritee Hill and Darian Darling.

The mood was positively electric leading up to midnight as Lil Kim made her way to the stage, and although consciously pregnant, the screaming (and yaaaaassssing) masses certainly made up for what she lacked in energy. It was all kisses, no misses as her fans ate every inch of her up!

As the night turned to an end, our Patrick McMullan ran into Gilded Lily co-owner, Lisle Richards, who gave us a behind closed doors tour of his also newly opened Monarch Restaurant – the upstairs neighbor to the Gilded Lily. As conversation of the cultured usually goes, the two fell upon the topic of art with Patrick offering a much intrigued Mr. Richards a peak at some of his own work. Will we see some original McMullan pieces on the wall of the Monarch? One cannot say as it’s hush-hush for now…
