From what I have seen so far this week, I think Katie Gallagher is my favorite designer at Fashion Week. I do not think that I am any sort of a fashion critic, or that I know anything really about fashion. I don't understand influence or neuance in a traditional sense of pulling from different era's and artistic backgrounds. But I don't care. What I like about her outfits is this: they are sexy and the designs are ballsy, and not just for the sake of being ballsy and sexy. Her outfits and sketches are gracefully dark and when you actually sit back and analyze every part of them, they are really amazing. They are, however, not appropriate for church, or work (depending, of course, on profession), a doctors visit or the first time you meet your significant others parents. But, they are wonderfully intimidating and sometimes frightening. A+ ... Read More

Bono and his wife Ali's label, Edun, operates under the premise that great things are born out of desire for change and Edun was created to spark change in the way we feel about our clothes. Because of this their mission has been to encourage trade with Africa and celebrate the possibilities and the people of the continent. They partnered with Made Africa to produce a series of tees that brought to life the drawings of children in Kenya, of which all the proceeds went back to fund basic needs like lunches at the Bidii School. In Uganda they helped start The Conservation Cotton Initiative which provides sustainable farming communities and a fair trade market for their cotton. The mission is not only to create beautiful clothing, but to create an impact through the art of fashion. Their 2011 Spring/Summer show was consistent with their usual organic tones and materials ... Last night on the eighth floor of Saks Fifth Avenue, guests converged on the Sergio Rossi Shoe Lounge so celebrate Fashion's Night Out and the premiere of a couple new shoe models. Creative Director and shoemaker, Francesco Russo was on hand along with rock princesses Alexandra and Theodora Richards, who offered a little bit of fashion advice to FNO shoppers. Other draws at the event were the appearance of two exclusively signed Sergio Rossi shoes—the over-the-knee Chelsea boot, which made its debut Tuesday on the FNO runway at Lincoln Center, and the stunning peep-toe stiletto Cachet. It was a shoe lover’s ultimate chance to indulge, and all against the backdrop of fresh beats spun by DJ and Vogue.com photographer Rachel Chandler.

With everything else in New York City, there is "the" party, then there is "THE PARTY." You might think they sound the same but one is clearly spelled larger than the other. Guests, including Chloe Sevigny, Adrian Grenier, Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani, went out in true fashion, mixing edge and "hip" that defined the majority of the crowd. Mr. West is in the BUUUIIIIILDING! That is right ladies and gentlemen. Hip hop sensation, twitter ranter, award show crashing, fashion forward producer Kanye West sat front and center for 3.1 Phillip Lim men's 2011 spring/summer show. Rockin' shades and a casual suit, Kanye enjoyed the styles of Lim who states the inspiration as "The boys being part bourgeoisie, part rugged. They have swagger, but they are beautiful." Hearing the inspiration for the show you have to understand the appeal for West, who is all those things. Well, the beautiful part is up for you to decide, but he seems to have a pretty good following.

Ke$ha played a concert this morning on the Today Show and I have to ask, what better way is there to wake up in the morning, than with Ke$ha? She's gorgeous, grungy and glamorizes getting drunk and waking up in unfamiliar places, like maybe in Greenpoint next to me! She doesn't try to woo us with complex dance routines or costumes with machine gun bras (GAGA!), but rather, she simplifies her approach and focuses on the root of what music is really about. Chicks who love to party! I like to party, who doesn't? And the most promising aspect of the concert was the fact that the audience was filled with a bunch of little teenagers. Now before you call me creepy, which I only kind of am, you have to think, well that's the next generation of little partiers. At least they're learning from the best. She is passing ... Read More

The Cinema Society and Sony Alpha Nex hosted a screening last night of Get Low, featuring Robert Duvall, at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. For years, townsfolk have been terrified of the backwoods recluse known as Felix Bush. People say he’s done all manner of unspeakable things — that he’s killed in cold blood; that he’s in league with the Devil; that he has strange powers — and they avoid him like the plague. Then, one day, Felix rides to town with a shotgun and a wad of cash, saying he wants to buy a funeral. It’s not your usual funeral for the dead Felix wants. On the contrary, he wants a ‘living funeral,’ in which anyone who ever had heard a story about him will come to tell it, while he takes it all in. Duvall's outstanding performance is supported Bill Murray Sissy Spacek and Lucas Black ... Read More

On Saturday at Gallery B, John Jonas Gruen celebrated the opening of his new exhibit with a reception in Sag Harbor. Spring noted: "John Jonas Gruen has made it his business to be in the right place at the right time. During his many years in Manhattan, Gruen-critic, author, and keen cultural observer-has moved with ease among dancers, musicians, playwrights, and poets. He seems, however, to have reserved a special interest in painters and sculptors. Through the years, Gruen has managed to capture many of them in his photographs. As a result, he has assembled a vast collection of portraits that cumulatively describe the artistic community of late twentieth-century New York." John Jonas Gruen, Tim O'Brien
This exhibit is titled "Italian Waiters" of which he writes “When I was a little boy living in Italy, I fell in love with Italian waiters,” wrote Mr. Gruen, by way of an ... Read More

On Tuesday night at Beauty Bar, M.A.C. and alice + olivia celebrated their collaboration with a new Stacey Bendet collection eye product. The mission was to come up with a formula to reproduce the perfect "smokey eyes" look, which if done correctly is sexy and seductive but if done incorrectly can come off as "just got smacked in the face or my friends never told me how to put make up on" look. But if you're going for that, it can work. Take Courtney Love for example, although I don't think that was the makeup because she most likely had actually just gotten in a fight, all the time. Well anyway this new line of products (I will now quote New York Fashion because this goes just beyond my area of expertise) "brings three new loose-powder pigment pots to your after-work palette. The Beth Rudin DeWoody curated exhibition Inspired, opened last night at Steven Kasher Gallery and features images from such iconic photographers as the one-and-only Patrick McMullan, Sante D'Orazio, Meghan Boody, Jen DeNike and Jordan Doner just to name a few. The photographs in Inspired reflect a wide range of photographic genres, generations and styles. The artists apply diverse approaches: appropriation, re-creation, homage, parody, and pastiche. This exhibition is both a celebration of the influence of the iconic work, and a testimony to the extraordinary images in our era which is saturated with lesser examples of "art." The show is also replete with generational rebellion and revenge. We see powerful transformations of the motifs, gestures, and techniques of the past into contemporary themes and timely connotations. The result is a gallery filled with the images of those who have not only mastered the art, but also ... Read More

On Tuesday night, everyone at Marquee in Manhattan got a chance to experience the Jersey Shore. Yep, the scholars from that sandy beach are back from filming their second season of complete idiocy to promote the release of a new techno album/sound track, and I officially hate when people reference/do the fist pump, especially when trying to be ironic. All of the little dolls from MTV's brain child/mistake/stillborn came out to be exactly what we wanted them to be. Yes people, we created these monsters. On the red carpet they smiled, and when the string was pulled did their very unique trick/pose/acted stupid. Snookie probably said the word guido no less than 15 times, "The Situation" showed off his abs, JWoww showed off the fact that she is actually attractive outside of the context of the show (good fer you!), and the rest well, did whatever it is they do. ... Directed by James Salomon, (Associate Director of Mary Boone Gallery in Manhattan) and in its first full season, Salomon Contemporary gallery celebrated the opening of "Hunt and Chase" Saturday afternoon, a group exhibition curated by Beth Rudin DeWoody.
