Pint sized pop star, Janelle Monae, kicked the entire room into an energetic dance party last night at the Swizz Beatz hosted Gordon Parks Foundation Gala, celebrating the near $500,000 raised in honor of the legendary photographer, Gordon Parks.

“Gordon Parks is our hero and we are honored to be a part of this,” opened Mr. Beatz, speaking on behalf of him and wife, Alicia Keys, standing at his side – a sentiment palpably shared throughout Cipriani Wall Street’s grand ballroom.

Mr. Parks had touched so many lives through his work and efforts, leaving an indelible mark on the evening’s honorees – Artist and Photographer Lorna Simpson, Designer Vera Wang, Director Ed Zwick, and Jazz Musician Irvin Mayfield.

“Each of these incredible [honorees] embody four principles that informed Gordon’s life: courage, vision, compassion and heart,” imparted former Mayor and longtime friend of Mr. Parks, David Dinkins.

From the moment of entry to the final act, Performance Space 122 Spring Gala 2014 felt like vivid Lynchian reverie – in other words, seduction of the senses. Set deep in the Paramount Hotel’s surreal cellar venue, Diamond Horseshoe; PS122 presented a spectacular variety show hosted by Justin Vivian Bond and REM’s Michael Stipe, raising a total of $190,000 – making last night their best year to date.

Upon our first step, we were drawn in by chanteuse Leah Siegel. Her entrancing voice synced to pulsating balloons lining the spiral staircase, playing like a Pied Piper leading us down into the cellar. Once down the rabbit hole and through the curtains, it was like stepping into Oz: a fantastical, gilded, neo-cabaret room with just a touch of steampunk for effect. No, we were not in Manhattan anymore.

New age accapellists, KHORIKOS, began the show with a sudden drop of ... Read More

Six floors of modern art from 170 legendary artists, focused in the heart of Midtown’s posh 57th street. That’s what Leila Heller Gallery’s newest location unveiled last night, attracting an exclusive selection of New York’s art elite.

Curated by Beth Rudin DeWoody and Paul Morris, Leila Heller Gallery’s LOOK AT ME: Portraiture from Manet to the Present exhibits works by the most celebrated artists of the past three centuries: Manet, Matisse, Picasso, Man Ray, Warhol, Haring, de Kooning, Renoir, and Degas… to name a few. Found even on display was a print from our Patrick McMullan.

With art of such regard, the typical wonder of ‘If these walls could talk’ comes to mind; but tonight, the walls in fact did, with many a subject peppered among us guests. Backdropped by a cinematically slickened Central Park South, the Time Warner Center rolled out the red carpet for its namesake’s annual gala of international influencers and impresarios: The Time 100 Gala, Time’s Most Influential People in the World.

Punctuated by rousing performances from Pharrell Williams, Carrie Underwood and Late Night’s Seth Meyers, the damp weather could not affect an otherwise memorable evening radiating with stars, dignitaries and visionaries alike; and buzzing around the gala with Patrick McMullan, this little fly on the wall caught many a moment.

The gala kicked off, appropriately, with the step-and-repeat photo ops, where poised for the press were the always stunning (and dashing) Amy Adams, Christy Turlington Burns, Edward Burns, Katie Couric, Frank Ocean, Susan Sarandon, Padma Lakshmi, Diane Paulus, Georgina Chapman and Gov. Scott Walker; while many listees from the less chased fields were charmingly awestruck with the pomp and parade – activist (and upcoming ... Read More

It’s not too often you can say a slew of stars enjoyed themselves in a courthouse, but that’s what happened Wednesday night among the iconic pillars of New York State Supreme Court for Vanity Fair Celebrates the 13th Annual TriBeca Film Festival. Hosted by TriBeca Film Festival Co-Founder Robert De Niro, Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter and Ronald Perelman, many of today’s hottest young starlettes, legends and moguls schmoozed the night away with Mayor Bill De Blasio in honor of New York’s most celebrated film festival.

Although ascending the stairs in the most graceful fashion (and fashions), everyone battled the chilly winds in keeping both warm and their hair in place for Mr. McMullan’s must-have arrival shots. With that, guests made the wise decision of nestling inside the courthouse, which imbued a playfully jovial spirit into the annual affair.

John Lennon's utopian vision in his song "Imagine" of a world without heaven, hell, countries, religion, possessions, greed, hunger and anything to kill or die for may not have come to fruition, but the legacy and spirit of his humanistic optimism continues 30 years after he was gunned down outside of his New York City apartment.

"Imagine all the people..."

You didn't have to imagine all the people descending on Strawberry Fields in Central Park on Wednesday, December 8th, 2010.  That date marks the 30th anniversary of that terrible day when one of our greatest artists was taken from us.  Though some understandably still focused on the tragedy of it, many more joined together in peaceful union with one another and celebrated the life and art of a true visionary.

John Lennon, you will be forever missed...
