The runway show took place at the Pier 94 exhibition space, perched over the Hudson River on the western side of midtown Manhattan. The idea behind the makeup was to mimic the way the models looked when they came in to audition for the show; Tahari wanted the "pretty, Bobbi Brown fresh look," which, given the fact that Kimberly Soane of Bobbi Brown was the lead makeup artist, was a no-brainer. For hair, Jon Reyman for Aveda and Elie Tahari chose to do "something modern and pretty, not overdone to compliment the clothes."

He went with a more intimate approach and threw a party to celebrate photographer Brian Bowen Smith and their newest collaboration, The Men and Women of Marc Jacobs. The book features 150 Jacobs employee portraits. For their previous collaboration Smith photographed celebrities in the nude for Jacobs's charity push back in 2006. "All the prints, the embellishment, the embroidery, all of those things are still in the collection," said Chai, speaking at his studio the day before his clothes hit the catwalk. "But what I'm showing on the runway is not that." That might sound counterintuitive, but the approach has its benefits. Loden Dager celebrated their Spring 2011 Fashion show today at the Kimpton Hotel Ballroom. The brand’s heritage is rooted in the sartorial idea of the student worker as an inspiring new archetype born of massive social change. Key references have ranged from the futurist movement of the 1920s, the masculine rigidity of the 1940s, the mod Sixties, the utopian hippie dream of the 1970s and the techno fabrications of the new millennium.

Oliver Helden, Alex Galan

The core of each collection is wardrobe of modern essentials such as the perfect 2 and 3 button tailored jackets, matching trousers that can be mixed and matched, button down dress shirts in the season’s perfect colors and weights, cashmere sweaters of the finest quality with a few special details to make it special, and the brand’s T-shirts and wovens which have developed a cult following and have been the subject of ... Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra have a certain, I don't know how to put it, lumberjackiness about them that kind of makes you giggle a bit when you see them. They are almost always seen as a pair, with flannel and suspenders and pretty burly beards. They don't scream fashion designers as much as other things, but because of that, they often surprise and impress others when they show their collections.  2005 marked the premiere of their label and that same year they took home the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award. They haven't looked back since. Playing with the tension between fabric, drape and silhouette, the designers create unique vision, both elegant and timeless, that borders both on couture in technique and process.

On Saturday evening in Southampton, painter Melinda Hackett celebrated the opening of her new exhibit titled Paumanok, at 4 North Main Street Gallery. Paumanok, which is Native American for "Long Island," was inspired by the sights and scenes on the East End, where she has spent every summer since childhood. While she was born and bred on the Upper East Side her technique very often speaks to the coastal towns in Florida and the West Coast due to her use of psychedelic patterns and how she incorporates a peace sign into every work she composes. Her color schemes and free form evoke emotions that are synonymous with beach towns for that reasons she has been very successful in those areas.
