HAPPY ANNIVERSARY INDOCHINE!

Indochine Restaurant celebrated their 25th anniversary on Friday night and I have to say that anniversaries always make me sentimental. Very rarely are we given the opportunity to celebrate anyone or anything's longevity, especially here in New York. I think the rule of thumb is anything that's great has a life span of about a month and a half before it becomes, well, bridge and tunnel. (a.k.a. Jersey, if I need to spell it out for you).  So anytime I have the opportunity to celebrate anything that has held up for a while, I'm just at a loss of words.

Before Friday, the last anniversary I celebrated was for my friend Jacob's parents. It was kind of an anniversary. See, it was the 25th anniversary of the renewal of their marriage vows. In the early eighties, Jacob's dad, Joseph, had a split with Jacob's mom ... Read More

The last thing I remember was losing myself in Robert Pattinson's eyes. He arrived at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema, Thursday evening; with that "a stiff breeze is perfectly shaping my beautiful mane" look. He had just a kiss of scruff on his chin and when the cameras started flashing things started getting a little fuzzy.
The next thing I knew, I was in the Pacific Northwest in the middle of a thunderstorm playing baseball. It all seemed strange but oddly familiar, and I was just happy to be with Robert again, whom I had seen only moments before at a premier in New York. How had I gotten here? Maybe he carried me on his back? I sure hope so.

A moment later I awoke (apparently I had been dreaming) back in New York amongst the flash of the cameras, but this time ... Read More

15TH ANNUAL ARTWALK NY HONORS PAT STEIR

ARTWALK NY held a beautiful and successful cocktail party and silent/live auction Tuesday, November 17th,  combining two of my very favorite things: art and food. Three of my favorite things if you don't technically consider cocktails a food group. I do but for the sake of argument I guess we can say that they had three of my favorite things.

Alec Baldwin, Pat Steir
Skylight Studios (275 Hudson St, NYC, 10013, 212.367.3730) was buzzing with excitement as the art world came together and took part in the 15th annual auction which honored Pat Steir. Guests also participated in the five million dollar legacy that helps provide support to the 37,000 homeless, including 16,000 children, who sleep in emergency shelters. Proceeds from the auction went to the Coalition for the Homeless, which is the nation's oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless men, women and ... Read More

Harry Connick Jr. Stole My heart, and Then Sang to It Like a Beautiful Southern Dove

Where was I when I first heard Harry Connick Jr.? That's a hard one. If I had to take a guess, and let me remind you that it's only a guess, I'd have to say it was November 26, 1992, which was a Thursday. I was about seven years old and I had just gotten out of school for the day. I was at my girlfriend Bliss' house playing fashion show, and after I screamed at Bliss and told her that she would never make it in this industry, which was true she never did, her mother, who adores Harry almost as much as I do, played Stardust, off the album 25, as I walked down our makeshift runway.  I almost fainted.

RON ENGLISH MAKES COWS SEXY, REALLY SEXY

I consider myself an artist. Do I paint? No. Can I create a masterpiece in the traditional sense like Monet, Rousseau or van Gogh? Yes, but not with paint. See, I am my own medium. I evoke emotion through action and expression. I am traditional art through a non-traditional avenue. But what does tradition have to do with true art anyway? Andy Warhol sold cans of soup to the world at a more than modest mark up. I wonder what a can of tomato soup went for in 1964? Compare that to what the picture of tomato soup went for in 1965. Just genius. That's it though isn't it? Sell people what they're already familiar with but make them want it more.

In that light, Ron English has officially brought the cow back. Look at a

FASHION FOR EVERYONE BUT ME

What can I say, I'm a model. I, like everyone else I am closest with, feel most comfortable on the runway. I tell my parents sometimes that I swear I was born on the runway. My mother says I was born in a bathtub on the Upper West side but I could never accept that. There is something about a thousand light bulbs flashing in a beautiful chorus of snapping colors that almost brings me to the point of ecstasy. My heart flutters with every sporadic snap, flash and plea from every photographer "please look my way!" Common folk.  But It goes far beyond that, it is the ability to, with a few confident strides, express myself to a room full of admirers where I yell, wait, exclaim through my saunter, "Hey un-fabulous! I bet you wish you were wearing the Tommy

THE ONLY WAY TO LIVE

On a daily basis, today being no exception, I am constantly tormented by a quandary that eats at me like the fear of one day having to step foot in Brooklyn. While my 2,000 square foot closet of an apartment on the Upper West side suffocates me, I am far too isolated by my 20,000 square foot Huntington, NY estate (North of 25A of course). What do I do? I just wish that I could take my conservative and cozy farm-style house out in the country, with its "Christmas morning" feel and just drop on top of a beautiful building where I live now. Or maybe the East side of the park I guess. Not too high though, but at least above 62nd (don't get me started).

My muse, Sue Hostetler
Just as my dilemma started to rack my brain so much
