Jean Shafiroff and Rose Hartman

This past Tuesday, November 13th, a book signing for "Incomparable Women of Style" took place at Haven, the rooftop lounge of Midtown West's Sanctuary Hotel, welcoming a stellar crowd.

The evening was an instant success. The savvy Ms. Hartman enlisted friend and philanthropist, Jean Shafiroff (whom Hartman has done several commissioned portraits of), to host the first official signing of her book. Robert Wilson

Martha Graham Dance Company celebrated the opening of its 85th Anniversary Season on Tuesday evening, March 16th, at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater. The stellar performance was a sight to behold. While photography was not allowed during the performance for obvious reasons, the imagery remains emblazoned in the minds of those fortunate enough to attend.

Robert Wilson's "Snow on the Mesa" (1995) flowed into "Maple Leaf Rag" (a 1990 Martha Graham original), working as an interesting combination. Drawing the viewer in was Wilson's effortlessly executed personal portrait of Martha Graham. In "Snow on the Mesa", Wilson reflects many aspects of Graham's persona, her interest in early America and the Shakers, her love for nature and the MidWest, her interest in Colin McFee and Balinese dance and, lastly, her interest in Western myths and Asian culture.

Runway

On Thursday, Feb 17th Joanna Mastroianni showed her Fall 2011 Collection in the building of her West 30 something showroom. Possibly the most well-executed show of the season, it is no surprise that Mastorianni showed the final day of New York's famed Fashion Week.

The collection, inspired by iconic American Photographer Lillian Bassman, is particularly exciting. Mastroianni focused on Lillian's fantastic black and white photographs, many of them taken during her tenure at "Harpers Bazaar". Mastroianni turned them into a glorious, glamorous, feminine collection of one-of-a kind garments.

Carol Alt and Iris Apfel

For the self-assured woman, who is "meticulously elegant", the collection is comprised of classic black and white looks fused with vibrant metallics. Standouts include a black double-faced wool dress with cut-out windows and leather harness, a silver matte lycee draped cowl dress and a white draped deep v-neck gown that

The Alliance for the Arts Annual Friends of the Arts Party 2009, proved to be a wonderfully insightful evening.  On Friday the 13th, Christie's opened its first floor galleries in celebration of Latin American Art.

The Friends Party began in 2003 as a way to support the Alliance's work as a leader in arts advocacy and to engage artists, policymakers and patrons in conversations about the arts.  This year, the Friends of the Arts Party incorporated the artwork of KiptonArt artists in its display, providing for fuller, richer program.

Before becoming completely engrossed in Uruguayan artist Ignacio Iturria's Somos todos brilliant oil-on-canvas that was part of the Latin American Collection, we came upon Stardust. A darling diptych, by German-based KiptonArt artist Tina Buccholtz. Stardust was an eye-catcher due to its densely crisscrossed strands interspersed with translucent glaze, giving it a three-dimensional effect. BRILLIANT!

Comedy for a cause is ALWAYS a good thing, isn't it? Well, when veteran comic and PMC shutterbug Jimi Celeste has anything to do with it, it’s ALWAYS good.  Last night, New York City animal lovers united to “Sit, Stay and Standup” at Chelsea's Comix, hosted by none other than Jimi Celeste.

Beginning with a rather generously timed cocktail reception, guests familiarized themselves with the ASPCA's dog and cat related info, calendars, and other fundraising items. By 7:30 pm, everyone made their way to their tables to take in the show.

This evening, a reasonably-priced fundraiser, contained a HOT bill showcasing the talents of comedians Jim Norton, Nick Di Paolo, Amy Schumer, Pete CorrealeLynne Koplitz, Marc Maron, Seth Herzog, Ben Bailey and Robert Kelly. Music came courtesy of the Enablers (featuring Adam Roth, Musical Director of “Rescue Me”)
