The Winter Wonderland Ball at the New York Botanical Garden this past Friday was a Who’s Who of the fashionable and beautiful in the New York society scene. Besides the usual attendees, young designers Christian Cota and Yigal Azrouël were there, along with Vogue staff from across the masthead.

Aid for AIDS Gala

Gala season is in full swing; the fashionable masses are decked out in floor-length gowns or well-tailored suits, flitting from one charity event to the next. The Aid for AIDS My Hero Gala falls squarely into this category and is very close to my heart. Many of us lost friends during the first wave of the crisis, when it went unspoken for too long. Putting together my book so80s reminded me how many friends had their candle extinguished too young.

Minnie Mortimer at East Side Social Club

I recently had the chance to get involved in restaurateur and friend Billy Gilroy’s new place, East Side Social Club (ESSC for short). Even in the restaurant business, I still find myself entrenched in the fashion world. Our debut weekend had us throwing a party for the launch of Minnie Mortimer’s spring 2010 line, hosted by me, Peter Davis, and Olivia Palermo.

Artwalk NY

My destination last night was Skylight Studios, which was hosting the 15th annual ARTWALK NY, one of the bigger fund-raisers of the year. ARTWALK NY benefits Coalition for the Homeless, an organization that feeds 3,500 hungry New Yorkers a day, among multiple other programs to help the city’s homeless. I have taken part in ARTWALK NY for years, and this time around I donated one of my favorite photos of Keith Haring. This photo is especially timely, as Shepard Fairey will be using it as inspiration for a print, with some proceeds going to the Keith Haring Foundation. He just did a wonderful piece with Glen E Friedman, and I have great expectations for his interpretation of my good friend Keith.
