Thursday marked the first day of true Spring weather and, not surprisingly, that evening brought out the fashion crowd en masse for the first time in… well… a while.
However, it was more than the mere lack of hurricanes or blizzards that coaxed this crowd out of their Netflix and reality-TV addicted cocoons. Indeed, there was much to celebrate this evening: From Jason Wu's studio-warming, to Akris's 20th anniversary with Bergdorf Goodman, to Stacey Bendet's brand new boutique at Saks Fifth Avenue. With Spring officially knocking at everyone's door, the evening could not have been a more appropriate nod to things old and new.
My first stop was at Jason Wu's spiffy new digs on West 35th Street. Upon entering the bright, recently renovated building on what is an otherwise rather dismal block, I knew that Wu's new pad would live to the hype that is now routinely expected of the designer.

"We're gonna boogie like it's your best friend's bat mitzvah," declared event designer Adam Aleksander, who transformed the upstairs of UES staple Orsay into a Baroque boudoir for The Supper Club hosted evening of decadence and desire. Supper Club PR directer Dara Levine and the Orsay owners personally escorted members and close friends to the bistro's second floor space, where they were immediately greeted with French Chardonnay (bien sur!) and Bulldog Gin cocktails. Citrus fruits were stacked on tiers of plates, resemblant of an 18th century still-life.
Once the intimate group of guests had time to recognize each other underneath the dusty Baroque wigs and face powder, they took a chance to indulge in many of the restaurant's signature dishes, like steak and tuna tartare, cheese souffles, Alsatian tarts, and mini-Napoleons. Then, they were treated to a surprise: a six-tiered white fondant cake, baked and decorated by the

"I have a great story for every one of them." The legendary George Lois told me of the covers he shot for Esquire from 1962 to 1972.
But his greatest story may literally have been about "the greatest." "Everybody hated
Muhammed Ali after he became a Muslim." Lois explained. Yet all of that changed upon the publication of Lois's most famous cover, featuring Ali with six arrows in his body. "I called him a martyr, and it literally changed the country's view of him overnight."
Ali's cover may have been the most notorious, but nearly all of George Lois's covers courted controversy in some fashion. This was the 60s, after all, and there were big name issues to be tackled, from Vietnam to Civil Rights to feminism to a string of devastating political assassinations.
In April of 2008, The Museum of Modern Art set up a year-long exhibit that featured 32

The 18th floor of The Standard may have the panoramic views, but the hotel's 3rd floor - that sits atop of the Highline - boasts a slightly more unique vision. It is here, the aptly named Highline Room, where Martine and Prosper Assouline hosted an intimate group of travel enthusiasts and industry types (like Jetsetter.com founder Peter Manice) to celebrate Conde Nast Traveler Editor-in-Chief's Klara Glowczewska's A Room With a View, an offshoot of one of the magazine's most popular columns.
The book contains 140 picture-perfect photos of hotel views ranging from cityscapes to mountaintops to pristine beaches. Incidentally, the Standard's Room 1211 graces the book's cover. When asked to choose a favorite, Klara demurred and remained diplomatic. However, she did let me in on her upcoming travel plans: First Berlin, then Anguilla. Research for her next book, perhaps?

It looks like mid-town really is the new downtown. To the Breslin, the Gramercy, and Monkey Bar, we can now add The Royalton to the ever growing list of hotel lounges that double as destination nightlife spots. This latest incarnation, however, owes its debt to Lady Gaga - at least indirectly. Her best friend and stylist, DJ Lady Starlight, kicked off what is to be a weekly event this past Tuesday night, spinning vintage vinyl records (some of which were her father's) to a crowd of downtown fixtures including Becka Diamond and Nylon's Faran Krentcil.
From 8 to 12 every Tuesday, Starlight, along with host Chris Shipps, promises to bring back an "authenticity and realness that nyc nightlife hasn't seen since the 1990s." For those who crave a scene, but could do without the deafening hip-hop that usually comes along with it, Royalton Tuesdays are now THE destination. The rock and
