I joined a group of illustrious art collectors, dealers and aficionados at the Art Show VIP gala, organized by the Art Dealers Association of America, at the Park Avenue Armory. The Art Show looked especially elegant this year, because of its carefully-chosen range, from 19th and 20th century masterpieces, to cutting- edge art works. Metro Pictures showed Cindy Sherman's handcut black and white collages (featuring Sherman playing 13 different Hollywood-style characters), a striking counterpoint to her enormous color prints on view at MOMA.
Armed with energy bars, attired in strong walking shoes, I attended the VIP opening at the Armory Show (Contemporary & Modern), on cavernous Pier 92 and 94. 583 Park Avenue was a true vision on Monday, April 2nd, as the entire main floor and balcony were transformed into "A Night on the Lido". The annual Supporters of Save Venice gala fundraiser, this year entitled "Un Ballo in Maschera", perfectly celebrated the organization's mission of preserving the cultural and artistic heritage of Venice. The spectacular evening was sponsored by Badgley Mischka and de Grisogono and chaired by Olivia Chantecaille, Adelina Wong Ettelson, Amanda Hearst, Mary Kathryn Navab, Alexandra Lind Rose, Beatrice Rossi-Landi, Luigi Tadini, and Matthew White.
Cocktails throughout the evening came courtesy of Pernod Ricard USA with water from Voss. Masks and Venetian-inspired costumes were the incentive for attendees to spare no expense on their creative process for the event.
