My photos of Studio 54, the glamourous, never-to-be duplicated hot spot of the late seventies, are on view at the Tea-Set cafe at 235 West 12th St, an intimate cafe run by a charming Frenchman who will make you want to wile away several hours enjoying sangria, a wide assortment of exotic teas, organic salmon, etc.

What better way is there to spend a gala evening than joining photo collectors, art dealers, former ICP recipients and this year's ICP honorees at the Chelsea Piers? I especially enjoyed meeting 99-year-old photojournalist Helen Gruber and lifetime achievement ICP Infinity Award winner Elliott Erwitt, who has focused his camera on Che Guevara, Marilyn Monroe and all those canines for six decades.

Even if you weren't lucky enough to get a ticket for the sold-out benefit, photo lovers should dash over to the ICP to enjoy Erwitt's huge, black and white retrospective, aptly entitled "Elliott Erwitt: Personal Best", along with Gruber's color images of Alaska's natives and Jewish communities throughout the world.

Even the most blase passerby will be delighted by the shimmering installation viewed only from the outside of the Roger Smith Hotel. Paris-based artist Anne Ferrer has created five brilliantly-colored, giant, hand-blown sculptures that breathe, billow, grow and evolve in slow motion to the lighter-than-air music of L.A.-based composer Carol Worthey.

Bravo both to freelance curator Ed Rubin and the LAb for their invitations to a versatile group of artists who transformed 47th St. and Lexington into a magical space.

In addition, the post-viewing was followed by a private dinner, highlighted by stimulating conversation, endless wine, pasta and salad.

While Cuba certainly has its challenges (I was fortunate enough to spend a week in Havana visiting amazingly resilient artists), even with its impoverishment, there is a tremendous amount of artistic activity. That range of talent is encapsulated in "Living In Havana", a talented five artist exhibition at Chelsea's Marlboro gallery through June 18th.

We were especially moved by Kcho's work, that revolved around the provocative theme of desperate migration. Guests of the Marlboro gallery celebrated the exhibition with mojitos and dinner at Havana Central.

The Latins certainly know how to party! Last night, some 600 fun-loving internationals put on their dancing shoes to attend the Museo del Barrio's annual gala. Cipriani's elegant space was the ideal venue to honor fashion photographer Mario Testino with a lifetime artistic achievement award, midst lively conversation, washed down with Bellinis. The glam guests included Chairperson Yaz Hernandez, who was elegant in white, a striking Carine Roitfeld, Anna Wintour, who was graciously posing for endless pictures, Fe Fendi in a magnificent antique shawl from Sevilla, Grace Coddington, Josh Hartnett , Narciso Rodriquez, blonder-than-ever Donatella Versace and the down-to-earth Kate Winslet, who honored Mario with an ASPREY silver tray signed by 35 admirers. The revelers danced the night away and raised $1,000,000 for the museum. Bravo!!!!

While I covered the event for my weekly blog, I couldn't resist a single picture of Ms. Winslet (who is one of my favorite actors). ... Read More
