BOSS ORANGE New Direction Party

After relaunching Orange at Berlin’s Fashion Week earlier this month, Hugo Boss brought the fashion line and party back to NYC last night. Hugo Boss’ space in Chelsea reflected the casual wear the party was celebrating, with tire swings (painted orange, of course) and comfortable lounge areas (almost too comfortable - possibly tempurpedic?). The designer of Orange, Brit Eyan Allen, said that besides being Hugo Boss being a German company, Berlin was ideal for the relaunch. According to him, the city has a great energy that reflects Orange’s nontraditional look of being rooted in modern styles while still being dated.

Explaining the incongruity of being both modern and dated, Allen said, “The people who look great are those that can mix vintage and new pieces.”

To get inspired for the line, he spent two weeks in Miami, soaking up the scene while imaging it was the 1950’s, especially on South Beach.

MAC, already on the cutting edge of make up, took a novel approach to introduce their Fall ’09 collection. Collaborating with three artists – Marilyn Minter, Maira Kalman and Richard Phillips – MAC gave each a color palate from their fall offerings to create work for their ad campaign. Last night the artists’ finished product was premiered at three parties, with Richard Phillips’ studio party the night’s crowning event, with a performance by Xeno and Oaklander and a kickin’ guest list to boot.

Genesis P-Orridge of Throbbing Gristle and numerous other artistic endeavors was in attendance, fitting as she influenced a young Phillips at Massachusetts Art, where she was a resident artist putting out performance art.

“He said I changed his life, that he wouldn’t have done [painting] without me,” P-Orridge said.
