According to Andy Warhol, "Max's Kansas City was the exact place where Pop Art and pop life came together." It's true: there are only a few places throughout history that perfectly, for their time, manage to fuse life, art and glamour so seamlessly and cook up such a cultural stew. This season, key pieces included the Kalahari dress which combines a rigid and fitted, raw denim bodice with a free-flowing parachute-style bottom section to create something fresh and unexpected, underlining G-Star’s philosophy of combining contradictory elements.

The runway show took place at the Pier 94 exhibition space, perched over the Hudson River on the western side of midtown Manhattan. The idea behind the makeup was to mimic the way the models looked when they came in to audition for the show; Tahari wanted the "pretty, Bobbi Brown fresh look," which, given the fact that Kimberly Soane of Bobbi Brown was the lead makeup artist, was a no-brainer. For hair, Jon Reyman for Aveda and Elie Tahari chose to do "something modern and pretty, not overdone to compliment the clothes."

It might be a sign of the times, the economy or his maturity, but Marc Jacobs' approach to his fashion week afterparty this year was comparatively well, smallish. This year, Jacobs didn't take over the Hiro Ballroom and get Lady Gaga to perform like last year. He went with a more intimate approach and threw a party to celebrate photographer Brian Bowen Smith and their newest collaboration, The Men and Women of Marc Jacobs. The book features 150 Jacobs employee portraits. For their previous collaboration Smith photographed celebrities in the nude for Jacobs's charity push back in 2006. Richard Chai showed off his spring 2011 Styles at Milk Studios this morning with some very exciting changes to the norm.  For Spring, Richard Chai flipped the script on the typical fashion strategy of putting your flashy best on the runway while keeping those more subtle, plain-Jane pieces at the showroom for buyers' eyes only. "All the prints, the embellishment, the embroidery, all of those things are still in the collection," said Chai, speaking at his studio the day before his clothes hit the catwalk. "But what I'm showing on the runway is not that." That might sound counterintuitive, but the approach has its benefits. When you're not distracted by the sparkle of a sequin, your eye can focus on form—and form was definitely the story chez Chai this season.

Those people who didn't sleep in this morning were treated to quite a morning show as Cynthia Rowley's retro-pop collection took center stage at Lincoln Center. While some may have been a little too under the weather for the early morning show, the front row was still packed with some early-rising A-listers that included Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cummings, Aisha Tyler, Katie Lee and Lauren Bush.

Rebecca Romijn

Once the lights dimmed, it wasn’t long before the beautiful pastel colors (mint greens, baby blues, salmon pinks) greeted the early risers. The rainbow hues were color-blocked onto shiny below-the-knee silk dresses and transparent chiffon boatneck tees. By the end of it all, the crowd was happily awake and all were given parting gifts of Band-Aids, limited Cynthia Rowley edition Band-Aids. I have never wanted a paper cut so bad in my life.

From what I have seen so far this week, I think Katie Gallagher is my favorite designer at Fashion Week. I do not think that I am any sort of a fashion critic, or that I know anything really about fashion. I don't understand influence or neuance in a traditional sense of pulling from different era's and artistic backgrounds. But I don't care. What I like about her outfits is this: they are sexy and the designs are ballsy, and not just for the sake of being ballsy and sexy. Her outfits and sketches are gracefully dark and when you actually sit back and analyze every part of them, they are really amazing. They are, however, not appropriate for church, or work (depending, of course, on profession), a doctors visit or the first time you meet your significant others parents. But, they are wonderfully intimidating and sometimes frightening. A+

One of the most highly anticipated shows in Fashion Week, the Christian Cota Spring 2011 collection, kicked off this afternoon with a number New York's elite sitting front and center. Angie Harmon, Fern Mallis, Chandra Johnson and Michael Fink were just a few of hew of the big names in attendance at Cota's first ever show in Lincoln center. While his first passion was painting, where he studied in Paris, he eventually saw fashion as medium to convey the inherent strength in women which was initially shown to him through his mother and grandmother. Much of his early influences came from them, his early life growing up in Mexico and his passion for painting. For this spring collection Cota also went back to his painting past to come up with color schemes and patterns with random inspiration coming from random occurrences involving candle wax and ... Loden Dager celebrated their Spring 2011 Fashion show today at the Kimpton Hotel Ballroom. The brand’s heritage is rooted in the sartorial idea of the student worker as an inspiring new archetype born of massive social change. Key references have ranged from the futurist movement of the 1920s, the masculine rigidity of the 1940s, the mod Sixties, the utopian hippie dream of the 1970s and the techno fabrications of the new millennium.

The core of each collection is wardrobe of modern essentials such as the perfect 2 and 3 button tailored jackets, matching trousers that can be mixed and matched, button down dress shirts in the season’s perfect colors and weights, cashmere sweaters of the finest quality with a few special details to make it special, and the brand’s T-shirts and wovens which have developed a cult following and have been the subject of ... Bono and his wife Ali's label, Edun, operates under the premise that great things are born out of desire for change and Edun was created to spark change in the way we feel about our clothes. Because of this their mission has been to encourage trade with Africa and celebrate the possibilities and the people of the continent. They partnered with Made Africa to produce a series of tees that brought to life the drawings of children in Kenya, of which all the proceeds went back to fund basic needs like lunches at the Bidii School. In Uganda they helped start The Conservation Cotton Initiative which provides sustainable farming communities and a fair trade market for their cotton. The mission is not only to create beautiful clothing, but to create an impact through the art of fashion. Their 2011 Spring/Summer show was consistent with their usual organic tones and materials ... Last night on the eighth floor of Saks Fifth Avenue, guests converged on the Sergio Rossi Shoe Lounge so celebrate Fashion's Night Out and the premiere of a couple new shoe models. Creative Director  and shoemaker, Francesco Russo was on hand along with rock princesses Alexandra and Theodora Richards, who offered a little bit of fashion advice to FNO shoppers. Other draws at the event were the appearance of two exclusively signed Sergio Rossi shoes—the over-the-knee Chelsea boot, which made its debut Tuesday on the FNO runway at Lincoln Center, and the stunning peep-toe stiletto Cachet. It was a shoe lover’s ultimate chance to indulge, and all against the backdrop of fresh beats spun by DJ and Vogue.com photographer Rachel Chandler.

Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra have a certain, I don't know how to put it, lumberjackiness about them that kind of makes you giggle a bit when you see them. They are almost always seen as a pair, with flannel and suspenders and pretty burly beards. They don't scream fashion designers as much as other things, but because of that, they often surprise and impress others when they show their collections.  2005 marked the premiere of their label and that same year they took home the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award. They haven't looked back since. Playing with the tension between fabric, drape and silhouette, the designers create unique vision, both elegant and timeless, that borders both on couture in technique and process.

Mr. West is in the BUUUIIIIILDING! That is right ladies and gentlemen. Hip hop sensation, twitter ranter, award show crashing, fashion forward producer Kanye West sat front and center for 3.1 Phillip Lim men's 2011 spring/summer show. Rockin' shades and a casual suit, Kanye enjoyed the styles of Lim who states the inspiration as "The boys being part bourgeoisie, part rugged. They have swagger, but they are beautiful." Hearing the inspiration for the show you have to understand the appeal for West, who is all those things. Well, the beautiful part is up for you to decide, but he seems to have a pretty good following.
